5 Things I learned in Quarantine

So as we slowing, state by state lift the orders of lockdown, we are entering a new normal. A new way we will have to get use to. As we emerge out of the house there are so many things I discovered about life, about myself about the world while in quarantine. It was like quarantine was a blessing in some way, a time to rest and a time to reflect on everything!

Sometimes well many times we avoid the hard things or challenges in life by putting out focus into something else. You had a breakup? Throw yourself into work. You lost something? Throw yourself into a new hobby. You hate your job? Go out and meet friends for drinks. There was always something pulling us from the core of the things we needed to focus on. Our trauma, our creativity, our health our healing. This quarantine had to pause everything to mak us refocus. Well that’s at least how I view it. Things in my life literally had to be separate. I needed the seperation to find my way back to people, back to myself.

Like you, I was not happy about quarantine, but actually I am grateful for this enforced break. I’ve learned so many things during this time. Here are the top 5:

  1. There is more to life than a career or work. So many of us created our identity based on our careers or our day jobs. It’s literally who we introduce ourselves as. What else is there? During quarantine I was able to reflect on what makes me who I am. What makes my story so unique? Without my career who would I be? I can proudly answer that.
  2. We as a county hate rest. We literally hate sitting still or being TOLD to sit still. Sitting still for us means unproductive or lazy. So out of perception, we don’t allow ourselves to do it.
  3. Sitting with your shit is hard! (Follow up post coming soon) During quarantine I couldn’t find a distraction from myself. So I had to sit with my shit, sit with the things I didn’t like. I sat with the things I couldn’t face and what I needed to heal from. During quarantine I had no choice but to deal with it.
  4. Although it is hard to keep in contact with everyone, those who love you will always reach out. I know some people will think it’s insensitive. Honestly, the people who love you will always reach out, no matter what is going on. The people who have not reached out at lease once – re-evaluate that relationship.
  5. The glow up is internal. Yes you can find a new skill, get a new hobby, land a new job, loose weight. But honey when that glow up is internal it hit different! You don’t have to show off your credentials! Your spirit will speak for itself! And that is the ultimate quarantine glow up!

BONUS: Loving yourself is hard. Quarantine made me realize you have got to love the parts you never watered in yourself. Why? Because those are probably the parts where your gift lies, where your healing happens, where you glow up!
